Finding Blog Posts

From Adrian:

Apart from the most recent posts which appear as links on the right, it is difficult to find where our contributions are located. We know that they are under "blogs", which is in the middle of one of several drop-down menus on the header. But that might not be obvious to anyone new: could the location of the articles and contributions be more prominent?

Which raises the whole question of navigation.  What should the top level menu items be?  And the second level?  We seem to be restricted to just two levels, but that is something to check if we woud like a third.

I'm assuming that we will want to curate some blog posts, to provide easy access to them via other pages, but that may not be the best solution.

  • Yes - good point - the Activity Feed, plus can also see someone's Blog posts and Discussion topics that they have initiated. Thank you for pointing that out. However, this is a bare list in reverse chron order (last 16 or so). The Activity Feed lists contributions made elsewhere - so, technically, this covers the space. However, no searches or queries to speak of - its ok for "Goldfish Mode" - where anything you want to see is in that last 50 interactions or so (I may be insulting Goldfish here). This is again rather basic. What about a more interesting "conversation" view, which would create a clearer timeline with interaction sequencing made more obvious.
  • Brian - when I select your picture or name, I am taken to a page which shows me all your comments, blog posts and so on. How is this different from the 'userspace' you are missing?
  • Navigation!! Great point, Paul! IMO, everyone's blog posts should be in their "userspace" - not in a single flat list. I also have some suggestions concerning comments and responses - but these don't make sense unless every user has their own space!! It is starting to look as though this platform doesn't support individual user spaces "out of the box" - which is somewhat dissappointing. They kind of support tags in a rather half-hearted way - in an attempt to provide a Gmail style "use the search engine" kind of way - but then where is the search engine?
