What future do you anticipate?
Many people - myself included, at times - are warning of a pretty dreadful future. Many of the things we have taken for granted are under threat - free healthcare, free speech, free elections; our lives increasingly controlled by multinational corporations and multi-billionaires; global warming leading to famines and massive migration.
Others are saying we are on the brink of something like Utopia: AI and automation will result in machines doing most of the soul-destroying jobs, leaving people increasingly free to be happy and creative; we simply need to grasp the opportunities being presented to us.
Or do you think that the future is unlikely to be either Utopia or some Dystopia, but a confusing mixture - some aspects of life getting better, and others getting worse?
Or is something else more likely?
And then, given the future you anticipate, what should we be doing now? Joining the Preppers? Educating children in their civic rights and responsibilities? Something else?
